• Congratulations! to Ed King of Graham, TX who finished in 1st place and recognized as the 2014 Texas State Champion and District 8 Champion.  Ed has won the Texas State Championship 15 times in a row, ever year since Professor H. L. Cravens, Jr. of Brownwood died in 1994, excluding the three years which Rupert Boeselt won it in 2004 & 2005, and no TX Tourney in 2006.
• Congratulations!  to CM Albert Tucker from Minden, LA who finished in second place.
• Congratulations!  to Stephen Graham of Odessa, TX who finished in third place.
• Faye Mounger Harvell opened the 2014 Texas business meeting by welcoming seven players and ask Rev. Elbert Jones to lead the group in open prayer and bless the tournament.  Faye also announced her resignation after 8 years as District 8 Manager and coordinator of the TX/D8 Tournament. Elbert Jones was elected President of the Texas Checker Association, and Manager of District 8.  He will also coordinate the TX/D8 Tournament which will be held in Carthage, Texas in 2015.
• There was a lengthy discussion on whether it should be in Longview as years past or Carthage.  Carthage won out because Elbert Jones has contacts in the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, and knows a key person who help bring the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame & the Tex Ritter Museum to Carthage and she works at Carthage Convention & Tourist Bureau.
• Elbert Jones reported the results Sat, Jun 7, 2014 at 11:45 PM via email.  “This was a 7 round (Round Robin) Tournament using the 156 3-Move Ballot Deck.  Mrs. Faye Mounger mailed me the official score-sheet and notes Tuesday, June 10, 2014 by Albert Tucker who actually mailing it to me.
• GM  stands for Grand Master,  IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given by WCDF to distinguish accomplished players.

• "T" separates player's opponent from player's accumulated game points.  Draw is 1, Win is 2 points,  Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.

• Josh Wilson is a 13 year old boy who was at the hotel and wanted to played in the tournament.  He enjoyed playing and was excited to play the Texas State Champion, although out classed, but awarded $15.00 for his interest and enthusiasm.

• The tournament entry fee of $25 was collected at registration, and it was announced the individual players were responsible to buy their ACF membership, because this was an ACF sanctioned Texas & District 8 Tournament.
• We definitely appreciate Mr. Joe McDaniel from Tulsa, OK who sent us a $200.00 prize fund contribution!  Faye Mounger Harvell contributed $50.00 and Elbert Jones gave $15.00 which took care of the $75 playing room fee.  The $150 entry fee and Joe's $200 totaled out the prize fund to $340.00.
• We want to thank Mrs. Faye Mounger, our District 8 manager for her sponsor/directorship of this tournament.  Faye has done a great job since she took over the TX/D8 in 2007.  We also want to thank Hugh and Judy Hawkins and all the others who helped with the tournament and providing the delicious lunch both days. Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Hawkins again furnished a wonderful meal of brisket sliced with all the trimmings, including coconut and chocolate pie.
